What is a WATA Ambassador?

Ambassadors are our on-the-ground partners, trained, trusted, and equipped to support clean water access in their own communities. They are students, teachers, and local leaders committed to ongoing impact.

HOW IT WORKS

WHO BECOMES A WATA AMBASSADOR?

1. We Partner with Communities

We begin by working with trusted organizations, schools, or local leaders in areas we serve. After setting up initial filters, we explore deeper, long-term partnerships.

2. We Identify Local Leaders

With input from our partners, we look for motivated individuals, students, teachers, or community members, who care about helping their community and are ready to take action.

 3. We Connect & Discuss

We meet with potential Ambassadors to go over the role, its responsibilities, and the positive impact it can have. We also discuss the benefits of joining our global team.

4. We Train & Launch

Ambassadors receive training (in person or remote), digital guides, and a starter filter to install for a local family. We onboard them into our support group chat and provide materials.

5. We Support & Stay Connected

Ambassadors continue setting up filters, helping families, and conducting surveys. We provide ongoing mentorship, swag, and check-ins — and sometimes return in person to follow up.

SOME FAQs

What is a WATA Ambassador?

  • W.A.T.A. Ambassadors are trusted local leaders, often students, teachers, surfers, or community members, who help carry the work forward after our team leaves. They support filter setups, train families on proper use and cleaning, conduct follow-up visits, and collect impact data through our survey system. Ambassadors are the backbone of long-term, community-led water access.

How are Ambassadors selected?

  • Ambassadors are identified in partnership with local schools, organizations, and community leaders in the areas we serve. We look for individuals who are committed to helping their community, comfortable taking on responsibility, and interested in supporting clean water access over time.

What kind of support do Ambassadors receive?

  • Ambassadors receive training, access to tools and guides, W.A.T.A. materials, and ongoing support through WhatsApp groups and direct check-ins. They use our digital survey system (Sparrow) to track filter setups and follow-ups, and they stay connected with the broader W.A.T.A. network for questions, updates, and support. As the program grows, we aim to expand support through shared devices, local incentives, and additional resources where possible.

Can I donate directly to support Ambassadors?

  • Yes. Donations help cover the costs of filters, training materials, survey tools, travel, and ongoing program support that make the Ambassador Program possible. Supporting Ambassadors means supporting long-term clean water access, not just one-time distributions.

Are Ambassadors volunteers?

  • Yes. Ambassadors volunteer their time and leadership, but we take their role seriously. We work to support them with tools, training, recognition, and resources so they can succeed and feel valued in their work.

Where are WATA Ambassadors currently working?

  • W.A.T.A. Ambassadors are currently active in Guatemala, Myanmar, El Salvador, Vietnam, and Thailand. Each Ambassador plays a critical role in keeping projects rooted in the community and ensuring families continue to have access to safe drinking water.
