THE STORY BEHIND THE MOCHILAS
When W.A.T.A. traveled to La Guajira, Colombia, our mission was simple: provide clean water to families in need. We never ask for anything in return.
After the project was complete, our partner, One Thread Collective, surprised us with an incredible gift. The Wayuu women we had given filters too had each handcrafted a mochila for us to take home and sell, hoping the proceeds could help recover the cost of the water filters we had donated.
Instead, we saw an opportunity to continue the cycle of generosity.
We told the artisans that every bag would become another water filter. Rather than being used for repayment, their craftsmanship would help provide clean water for families in other communities around the world.
Today, every mochila in the Woven Together Collection represents two acts of generosity: the women who handcrafted it, and the families whose lives will be changed through clean water.
Together, we’re proving that kindness has a ripple effect.

One Thread Collective is a nonprofit organization, located in Santa Barbara, working alongside Indigenous Wayuu communities in La Guajira, Colombia to create sustainable opportunities through traditional craftsmanship, education, and community-led development. By connecting artisans with global markets, they help preserve generations of weaving traditions while creating reliable income for Wayuu families.
Their partnership with W.A.T.A. has helped expand access to clean water throughout La Guajira while inspiring the Woven Together Collection, where every handcrafted mochila continues that impact by supporting both Wayuu artisans and future clean water projects.
