THE BUCKET SYSTEM

The Bucket System is one of the most impactful ways to help people get access to clean drinking water. The bucket allows for easy transport and durability as well as high volume of water capacity (approx. 5 gallons)

WATER FILTER SETUP

DRILL A HOLE IN THE BUCKET

Using the Drill Bit provided (13/16), Drill a Hole about 1" from the bucket bottom. The Hole can be drilled using your hand as well.

NOTE: Make sure the hole is high enough so the adapter can sit flat on the floor or table.

ALTERNATE FILTER SETUPS

In some cases, access to a Bucket may not be possible. The sawyer filter is versatile and can be used in different setups.

Mesh Bag can be used to hang the filter up and use gravity.

The Sawyer Filter can be attached to a Pouch or a Water Bottle and using gravity (with a little squeezing) the filter should do the rest, providing clean drinkable water.

In some communities, a more community style filter system might be needed. In those cases it’s possible to attached to rainwater catchment systems.

USING THE WATER FILTER

1. FILL THE BUCKET

Pour dirty water into the top of the bucket. You can use river, tap, rain, or well water.

2. FILTER USING GRAVITY

Let gravity slowly push the water through the filter. No need to squeeze or pump.

3. DRINK CLEAN WATER

Before cleaning begins, make sure you filter or get a couple cups of clean fresh water.

DO NOT use Saltwater or Cleaning Chemicals

REPEAT THESE STEPS 3-4 TIMES, DAILY, OR UNTIL WATER COMING OUT IS CLEAR

ABOUT THE SAWYER FILTER

• The Sawyer filter uses a 0.1 micron filter to remove bacteria, protozoa, and dirt from water.

• It can clean up to 100,000 gallons of water if maintained properly.

• The filter works with gravity and does not require electricity or complicated tools.

• It is lightweight, portable, and designed for easy setup and use.

DOs & DO NOTs

• DO clean the filter after each use to keep water flowing

• DO Keep the filter wet - Never Let It Dry Out

• DO Only Use Clean Water to Backwash the Filter

• DO Store the Filter and Bucket in a clean, safe place

• DO NOT use the filter with saltwater or water with chemicals.

• DO NOT drop or hit the filter—it can get damaged.

• DO NOT leave the filter in direct sunlight for long periods.

• DO NOT touch or put your mouth on the cleaning syringe or Filter Top. This will contaminate the system.

WHAT TO DO IF...

The Water Flow Slows Down:

• Clean the filter by backwashing with the syringe provided.

• Check for clogs or dirt in the filter connections.

The Filter Leaks:

• Ensure all connections are tight.

• Adjust/Repace the rubber O-ring inside the filter end if it is damaged, adjusted, or missing.

You Notice a Strange Taste in the Water:

• Rinse the filter and bucket with clean water.

The Filter Freezes in Cold Weather:

• Do not use a frozen filter; replace it as it may not work properly.

You Lose the Cleaning Syringe:

• Contact WATA or your Ambassador to get a replacement. Or use any similar syringe.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

• How long does the filter last?

If cleaned regularly, the filter can last for many years and process up to 100,000 gallons of water.

• Can I use the filter with dirty water?

Yes, but let the water settle first to remove large particles.

• What happens if the filter gets clogged?

Use the cleaning syringe to backwash the filter and remove clogs.

• Can I filter out chemicals?

No, the filter cannot filter out chemicals from water sources. Please do not try to filter this water.
